「昔は」とは言いません。
「昔も今も」先輩たちにゴルフを教えてもらった
という方は多いと思います。
 
クラブは常に3,4本持って、打ったら走れ。
クラブを取り替えにカートに戻るなんて十年早い。
 
他の人がカートに乗ってるなら、
クラブを持ったまますぐに乗れ。
クラブをしまっているだけ時間がかかる。
 
バンカーからグリーンに乗せられなかったら
グリーンに乗せることをまず優先し、
バンカー馴らしはほかの人に頼め。
 
寄せのクラブはカップとカートの間のラフに置け。
そうすれば忘れにくいし、
無駄な時間もなくなる。
これは「なるほど！」と思いました。
それでもちょくちょくクラブを忘れますが。
 
グリーン上は走ったり、靴底を引きずって歩くな。
芝が痛む。
 
他の人のパットラインは絶対に踏むな。
芝が荒れ、上級者ほど気にする。
初心者の頃なんて、
自分で自分のラインを平気で踏んでましたけど。
 
自分のパットの順番をよく意識して、
自分の番になったらすぐに打てるようにしておけ。
自分の番になってから
ラインをあれこれ見始めるなんてのはもってのほか。
 
グリーン上でスコアを書くな。
グリーンからはすぐに出て、
後ろの組の人を待たせないようにしろ。
これも「なるほど！」と思いました。
 
前が空いちゃうから、
悪いけどこのホールはギブアップにしよう。
後ろの組の迷惑になってしまうし。
 
これにはむしろほっとしました。
スコアなんて多すぎて数えられないし、
いつになったらグリーンに乗るのかしら？
という状態でしたので。
 
これらの教えは
他のゴルファーには迷惑をかけるな。
特に遅くなることが一番の迷惑になる。
ということが十分意識されたものだったと思います。
 
一方でこういう方もいらっしゃいます。
 
初心者ばかりで遅いから
一番後ろの組に変更してくれ。
 
一番後ろにしても、
最初のハーフの後に折り返しの組が来ますので
一番後ろの組だから遅くてもよい
というのは困りますが。
 
何で？
 
いや、「何で？」って何でですか？
 
 
禅問答のようでしたが、これを認めると
100人近くの人の後半のラウンドに
影響が出てしまいます。
 
初心者の方にゴルフを教えることは大変ですし、
ゴルフ業界にとってもありがたいことなのですが、
まず優先すべきマナーは何なのか
ということをを教えて頂きたいものです。
 
その方はその方で、そういう方に
ゴルフを教えてもらったのでしょうが、
不幸な話だとも思います。
 
一方、今思い起こしてみると
 
目土をしろ
 
ボールマークを直せ
 
ということは、初心者の頃には言われませんでした。
 
多分、ぼくらがアタフタ駆け回っているときに
諸先輩方がやってくれていたんでしょう。
 
まあ、初心者は遠くから乗せることがほとんどなく、
結果、自分で深いボールマークを作ることも
まずありませんが。

Spreading the golf culture
I don’t say “back in the day.”
I think there are many people who have been taught golf by their seniors “both in the past and now.”
 
Always carry 3 or 4 clubs, hit the ball and then run.
It’s way too early to go back to the cart to change clubs.
 
If someone else is in a cart, get in right away with your clubs in hand.
It will take extra time to put your clubs away.
 
If you can’t get the ball from the bunker onto the green, make it your first priority to get the ball onto the green and ask someone else to level the bunker.
 
Place your approach club in the rough between the cup and the cart. This way you’re less likely to forget and you won’t waste time.
This made me think, “I see!”
But I still forget my clubs every now and again.
 
Don’t run or drag your shoes on the green. It will damage the grass.
 
Never step on other people’s putting lines.
The grass gets rough, and more advanced players are more concerned about this.
When I was a beginner, I would just step on my own line without thinking about it.
 
Be aware of your putting order and be ready to putt when it’s your turn.
It’s out of the question to start thinking about your putting line when it’s your turn.
 
Don’t write your score while you’re on the green.
Get off the green quickly so the group behind you doesn’t have to wait too long.
This also made me think, “I see!”
 
I’m sorry, but you’ll give up on this hole because we’ll be late to the group in front of us.
If we continue playing like this, we’ll just be a nuisance to the group behind us.
 
This was actually a relief.
I was hitting scores that were too many to count, and I was wondering when I would actually get on the green.
 
I think these instructions were made with the understanding that
 
Don’t cause trouble for other golfers.
The biggest nuisance is being late.
 
On the other hand, there are also people like this.
 
Please change the start time to the latest time as there will be a lot of beginners and it will be late.
 
Even if you start behind the latest group, the group that has already finished the first half will be behind you.
Therefore, it would be a problem if you had to play a slow round just because you were the last group to start.
 
Why?
 
No, why do you mean “why?”
 
It was like a Zen riddle, but admitting this would have an impact on the later rounds of nearly 100 people.
 
Teaching golf to beginners is difficult, and it is a great help to the golf industry, but I would like them to be taught what etiquette should take priority first.
 
This person was probably taught how to play golf by someone who didn’t know their priorities, but I think it’s an unfortunate story.
 
On the other hand, now that I think about it,
 
Put sand in the hole
 
Fix the ball marks
 
That’s something we weren’t told when we were beginners.
Perhaps our seniors were doing it for us while we were busy running around.
 
Well, beginners rarely hit the ball from far away, and as a result, they are unlikely to make deep ball marks.
