30年近く前までだったと思うのですが、
昔のゴルフシューズは上記の写真のように
革靴の裏にピンが打ち込んであるような感じでした。
 
まあ、見た目は「おしゃれ」「カッコいい」
と思われるかもしれませんが、
経験した人はみな思ったはずです。
 
ゴルフを運動靴でやっちゃいかんのか？
と。
 
当時、電動カートはないため、
基本的にずっと歩いてのラウンドで、
10Kmぐらいは歩くのが当たり前でした。
 
加えてほぼ革靴ですので、
靴底だけでなく側面も硬く、
足の小指に圧力をかけ続けていました。
 
そしてもっとも致命的だったのは
日本人の足型に合わない尖り靴先
ということでした。
 
結果、ゴルフをすると足腰の疲れよりも
足の小指が耐え切れないほど
痛くなってしまうということが起き、
 
日本中のゴルフ場から
足が痛え、小指がつぶれちゃう、
もうヤダ
という悲鳴があがっていました。
 
私が当初ゴルフにあまり
のめりこめなかったのは
それが一番大きな理由でもありました。
 
でも、ゴルフ場ってジャケットとかの
ドレスコードが厳しいというイメージがあり、
運動靴なんかを履いてきたら
入場を断られちゃうんじゃないか？
 
とも思われたんですよね。
 
そんな多くの人の心配をよそに
ある日、今のタイプの運動靴みたいな
つま先も広いゴルフシューズが販売され、
あっという間にそれが主流になりました。
 
足が痛いと思っていた人は
よほど多かったのだと思います。
 
そして、あんなに苦しんだのは
一体何だったんだと
本当に思ったものです。
 
それからです。
足の小指の苦痛から解放され、
好んでゴルフをラウンドするように
なったのは。

今のようなタイプのシューズを
ゴルフショップで初めて見た時は
 
「これ、ゴルフシューズ？本当に？
　いいの？こんなん履いてラウンドしても？」
 
と本当に思いました。
そして、手に入れた時は本当に
嬉しかったです。
 
大体、あの当時はビジネスシューズも
靴先が尖った物ばかりで、
 
サラリーマンは日頃から小指の痛みに
悩まされていたんですよねえ。

Golf courses all over Japan were hearing cries of
“My feet hurt, my little toe is getting crushed,
I can’t take it anymore.”
 
That was the main reason I wasn’t very into golf at first.
 
However, we had the impression that golf courses have strict dress codes, such as jackets,
and I was worried that I would be refused entry if I showed up wearing sneakers.
 
Despite the concerns of many people,
one day, golf shoes with wide toes, like today’s sneakers, went on sale,
and they quickly became mainstream.
 
I think a lot of people have pain in their toes.
 
I really wondered why I had to suffer like that.
 
And that’s when I was free from the pain in my little toe and started enjoying playing golf.

When I first saw these types of shoes in a golf shop,
 
“Are these golf shoes? Really?
Is it okay? Can I play a round wearing these?”
 
I really thought so.
And I was so happy when I got it.
 
Back then, business shoes all had pointed toes,
and office workers suffered from pain in their little toes on a daily basis.
