ラウンド中よりもむしろラウンド中以外の方が
楽しく、ラウンド前夜と翌日のティグランドに立つ
までがもっとも楽しい。
 
とこれまで書いてきましたが、
それを考えるとゴルフの楽しさの正体が見えて
きます。
 
ナイスショットやナイスカップインも楽しい
のですが、ミスをしてスコアを落とす状態に
ないことが楽しさの正体です。
 
そして、ラウンドが近づくにつれ、
ミスをしないことが前提の脳内ゴルフでは
スコアがどんどん良くなり、
楽しさがマックスに到達します。
 
練習場も楽しいですよね。
 
ミスショットをすると「チェッ」とは思いますが、
「やっちゃった」「やっちゃった」
とまで落ち込むことはありません。
スコアをつけているわけではありませんので。
 
そして、ラウンド中でも非常に楽しい状態となる
のは、言ってみれば唯一、
 
自己ベストを更新できるかもだとか、
競っている相手よりもスコアが良い時の
どちらかだけです。
 
そうしてみると、ゴルフはやっぱりスコアなんですね
（全員がそうだというわけではもちろんないですし、
　スコアをつけないというのは一番賢いのかもしれ
　ませんが）。
 
よいショットもよいスコアの実現手段でしかありま
せんし、少ないハンディが尊ばれるのもよいショットを
打てる裏付けになるからでしょう。
 
ゴルファーの道に外れてしまうようなことを
してしまう方も、一言で言えば実力以上に
スコアをよくしたいの一心からです。
 
点数主義というと聞こえが悪いですが、わかりやすい
ですからね。
 
いくらショットがいい、パットがうまいといっても、
どの程度かは説明が難しいです。
 
平均スコアがいくつとか、
ベストスコアがいくつという方がわかりやすいです。
 
もちろん、ベストスコアと言った時に、
 
それはどのティからなのか、
またどこのコースでなのかで
意味合いに違いが出てきますが、それはまたいつか。

「俺も『まあ』でたっぷり韻を踏んでやったぜ。
　どうだい、ジャック？
　それに引き換え、ゲーリーの奴、
　余韻も何もないことを言いやがって。」
 
プレーヤー
「だって、あのぐらい言ってやらねえと
　あいつら意味がわかんねえって。」
 
ジャック
「それでも自分より上のことはわからんさ。
　まあ、何年たってもこの写真を見てくれる連中がいるなら
　それだけでも嬉しいことじゃないか。」
 
パーマー
「そうだな。俺が写ってるから相当長く見てもらえるぜ。
　お前ら、この俺に感謝しろよ。俺があってのお前らだからな。」
 
ジャック＆プレーヤー
「ああそうさ、アーニー。お前にはいつも感謝だ（笑顔）。」
 
パーマー
「二人から言われると、照れるじゃねえか。はははは」
 
という会話が降ってきて、冷や汗が流れました。
ただ、彼らの会話、日本語だったんですよねえ。
 
 
The most fun part of golf Ⅲ：The essence of fun
It could be said that the time off the course is more fun than the time during the round, and the most enjoyable time is the night before the round and the time leading up to the tee the next day.
 
This is what I have written so far, but when you think about it, the true joy of golf becomes clear.
 
It’s fun to make a nice shot or get the ball in the cup, but the real fun is being in a position where you can’t lose your score.
 
And as the round approaches,
playing mental golf without making any mistakes will get you a better and better score, and the fun will reach its peak.
 
The practice area is also fun.
 
When I make a bad shot, I know I’ve failed, but I don’t get depressed and think, “Oh, I’ve done something terrible.”
Because I’m not keeping score.
 
And the only time we have a lot of fun during a round is when, so to speak,
 
It’s either one thinks he might be able to beat his personal best or he’ve got a better score than the person he’s competing with.
 
When we think about it, golf is all about the score.

And may be not keeping score might be the smartest thing to do.）
 
A good shot is only just a means to a good score, and A small handicap is valued because it proves that he can hit good shots.
 
Even those who do things that may not be considered golfing are doing so simply because they want to improve their score more than they actually have the ability to do.
 
It may sound bad to say that scores are everything, but it’s easy to understand.
 
No matter how good your shots are or how good your putting is, it’s difficult to explain how good they are.
 
It’s easier to understand if you know the average score or the best score.
 
Of course, if this score is the best score,
 
The meaning will differ depending on which tee the score is from and what course it is on, but that’s a topic for another time.

They say golf is about the score.
 
Palmer:
Well, not bad for an amateur.
 
Player:
If someone tells me the score is 79, I don’t know what to say. If he said 5 under or 3 over, I can say something.

Player:
“Well, if you don’t say it like that, they won’t understand.”
 
Jack:
“But We don’t understand anything above ourselves.
But I’ll be happy if there are still people who look at this photo after all these years.”
 
Palmer:
“Yeah, people are going to look at this photo for a long time because I’m in it.
You guys should be thankful to me.
You don’t exist without me.”
 
Jack and Player:
“Yeah, Ernie. We’re always grateful to you (smiles).”
 
Palmer:
“It’s embarrassing when you two say that, hahaha.”
 
This conversation came to my mind and I broke out into a cold sweat.
However, for some reason, the conversation they were having in my mind was in Japanese.
