ゴルフが奥深いというか難しいという理由の一つに
いろいろな要素の複合競技だということがあります。
 
①飛ばす
 
②フェアウエイから正確にショットを打つ
 
③ボールのライ、スタンスに応じて打ち方を考える
 
④ライン・風を読む
 
⑤力を加減して飛距離・パッティング距離を合わせる
 
という基本的な5要素のほか、
 
⑥自分にあったウッド、アイアン、パターほかの道具類の選定
 
⑦上記の道具を取り揃える目利き力・知識、そして財力
 
⑧ミスをしても自分の感情を周囲にまき散らさない
　等の感情コントロールと周囲を楽しませるユーモア。
 
など、いろんな要素があり、
それぞれをクリアしなくてはいけない所に
ゴルフの難しさがあります。
（⑧は異論があるかもしれませんが）
 
一方で、若い時は、一番下手でも飛距離が
一番出るだけで楽しいゴルフだったのに、
 
今や一番うまいのに、飛距離で完全に負けて
すごく悔しいというのもゴルフです。
 
いろんな要素があるから奥深く難しく、
そして切りがないのですが、
それゆえ楽しいのは間違いありません。

The Depth of Golf II
One of the reasons why golf is deep and difficult is that it is a complex sport that combines many different elements.
 
① Hit the ball far
 
② Hit the shot accurately from the fairway
 
③ Consider how to hit the ball depending on the lie and stance of the ball
 
④ Reading the line and wind
 
⑤ Adjusting the force to match the flying distance and putting distance
 
In addition to these five basic elements,
 
⑥ Selecting the right woods, irons, putters, and other equipment
 
⑦ The discerning ability, knowledge, and financial resources to have all the above equipment
 
⑧ Emotional control, such as not letting your emotions spill out onto those around you even when you make a mistake, and humor that entertains those around you.
 
There are many factors to consider, and the difficulty of golf lies in having to overcome each of them.
(Some may disagree with ⑧.)
 
On the other hand, when I was young, golf was fun because I could hit the ball the farthest even if I was the worst player,  
but now, even though I’m the best, I get really frustrated when I lose out in terms of distance.
 
Because there are so many different elements, it is deep, difficult, and never-ending, but that is what makes it so fun.

I’m playing golf well today so I’m glad that’s the case.
 
From past experience, if you go in that direction, it’s unlikely to become an OB.
Are you relieved?
 
Yeah, I was so relieved.
I got it onto the green from there…
 
But when he went to look, the ball was outside the white pile.
 
Ah, I guess it’s OB after all.
 
Disappointed?
 
Yeah, more disappointing than usual.
Oh wait, that was your goal, wasn’t it?
