ここは「池さえなけりゃ」というホールであり、
池があるから苦しむ、
左手前に深いバンカーもあるから
更に難しくなるというホールです。
 
そのため、池を埋め、バンカーも埋めてみました。
本日12/14より、下の写真のとおりとなっています。
 

 
これはいいですね。
短めに狙って、1onしなくても寄せ1が出来そうです。
これで、皆様のスコアもよくなると思います。
 

 
一方、これが元の姿です。
 
池があっても手前に余裕があれば
普通にピン狙いが出来るのですが、
あそこまでぎりぎりだと、
大きめに打つしかありません。
 
そうすると、下りラインのパットが残るか、
バンカーを含めたグリーン奥からの下りの寄せ
ということになります。
 
更に左手前のバンカーの存在により、
大きめに打つという心理的プレッシャーが増します。
 
池ひとつでホールの難易度をコントロールするという
ジャック・ニクラウスの設計の凄さを
このホールには感じます。
 
ということもありますので、
今日やってみて改造が不評となった場合は、
夜を徹して元の姿に戻す予定です。

Sanbell IN No. 13: If only there was no pond
This is a hole that you would think would be “if only there wasn’t a pond,”
and the pond makes it difficult,
and the deep bunker on the front left makes it even more difficult.
 
Therefore, we filled in the pond and the bunkers.
As of today, 12/14, it looks like the photo below.
 

 
This is great.
You will now be able to choose an attacking style from just before the green.
This will likely improve your score.
 

 
On the other hand, this is how it originally looked.
 
Even if there is a pond, if there is enough space in front of it,
you can normally aim at the pin,
but if it’s that close,
you have no choice but to hit it a little bigger.
 
This means you’ll either be left with a downhill putt,
or a downhill approach from the back of the green, including the bunker.
 
Furthermore, the presence of a bunker on the front left increases the psychological pressure
to hit the ball a longer distance.
 
This hole shows the amazing design of Jack Nicklaus, who was able to control the difficulty of the hole with just one pond.
 
So, if we see the reaction of today’s visitors and the modifications are unpopular,
we plan to work through the night to return it to its original state.
 
Uncle Jack might come angry from across the ocean and say,
“You did it without saying a word!”
